"EXTREME SEGWAY" PROTOTYPE HITS 100 MPH

LANCASTER, PA, April 1, 2002- Engineers are developing a sporting model of the Segway™ Human Transporter that will "blow away" the commercial model E167 (left) introduced in early December, according to an anonymous source within Segway LLC. Company officials reportedly anticipate that a new form of motorsport called Extreme Segway will grow up around the unique transportation device.

Rumors of the addition of an internal combustion engine were confirmed by the source, who provided the black and white photograph at right of what appears to be a highly modified Segway HT model E167. The compact V-twin engine's added grunt necessitated the addition of beefed up gyros, but "otherwise the control electronics are bone stock." The machine is said to be capable of hitting 100 mph.  - K. Stadden
